This handy Leather Strop and Edge Dresser is ideal for dressing a cutting edge and removing burrs on blades after it has been corrected / sharpened. It is important to remove burs on the edge of a blade to ensure the cutting edge performs as required. Apply buff polish when required again.

Our strops are double-sided. This has polish infused veg tan leather on one side, and Trizact A45 (P400 grit) on the other.

Made on site at the SD Knives Workshop.

Both sides can be used to put a true razor-sharp edge on any knife or tool. If you’re using honing compound, apply it to the suede side and leave the smooth side plain. If you’re using compound, strop on the suede side with compound first, then the smooth side to finish the edge.

How to apply the polish: with a hair dryer or similar heat source, apply some heat to the leather. Once the leather is slightly warm, apply some polish to the warm leather allowing it to melt into the leather. Apply this thin layer of polish to the leather before stropping. Be careful not to overheat the leather, as this will make it hard and brittle. Once it has cooled, you can take an old knife and work / rub the polish into the leather prior to first use.

The strop / leather buff is ready to use. Buffing compound / polish has been applied on the one side.
